Many native & visiting birds make this area their home, you can expect to see a wide variety of birds including swallows, tree sparrows,nuthatches, chaffinches, red kite, buzzards & many more.

This beautiful photograph of a Kingfisher was taken by one of our guests, he spotted the kingfisher by the Cothi River at the bottom of one of our fields. He also captured this stunning photograph of a Buzzard sitting on our paddock gate.




Aswell as the birds to be seen in the local area, the RSPB reserve at Dinas is nearby.

Walking/Mountain bikes

17 kms of accesible tracks & paths are open to the public, most are well signposted & will take you through a variety of terrain from forestry tracks to the vast beauty of the Mynydd Mallaen. We will gladly advise you of where to go & places of interest. The recently opened Red Route at Brechfa forest has opened for Mountain bikes, a challenging route for experienced mountain bikers but there also plenty of tracks nearby for the less advanced biker.

Fishing

The river Cothi runs through our land & permits can be obtained for fishing.
Spring Water lakes approx 4 miles away has trout & course fishing.

Horse riding in Wales, the centre is 5 minutes from our holiday cottageHorse riding

There are 2 riding centres near to the cottage, although during the summer months it is advisable to book in advance.
Five Saints Riding centre is less than a mile from the cottage, they offer riding for all abilities from a 1 hour ride to a full days riding, for small children you can also book a half hour ride into the forest.
The surrounding area is ideal for horse riding and it is possible to book a Pub ride where you can have lunch at the neighbouring village of Caio.



Dolaucothi Goldmines

The Goldmines, one of only 2 mines in Wales is within a 5 minute drive of Crud y Barcud. The site was originally mined by the Romans & later reopened where it was mined until 1938.
The mine finally closed due to the rising costs of extraction & not due to the lack of gold.
Its a great family day out, with a panning section & underground tour.

The seaside/coast

The cottage is approx 45 minutes - 1 hour from the coastal towns of Aberaeron & Newquay. Along the coastline there are some lovely coves & villages such as Cwm Tudu or Llangrannog. Aberystwyth, Tenby & Saundersfoot are slightly further afield approx 1.5 hours.

Aberglasney Gardens & National botanic gardens

Spectacularly set in the beautiful Tywi valley of Carmarthenshire, Aberglasney Gardens have been an inspiration for poetry since 1477. The story of Aberglasney spans many centuries, but, the house's origins are still shrouded in obscurity.
30 mins from Crud y Barcud, spend an afternoon in these beautiful gardens.

National Botanic Garden Wales near Carmarthenshire

Middleton home of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, the first national botanic garden to be created in the new millennium. One of the most visited gardens in Wales, they are helping to conserve many of the worlds rarest plants.
Approx. 45 minute drive from Crud y Barcud.
